You can reinstall Carbonite Safe on your existing Mac to update Carbonite to the latest version, fix common issues, and add improvements to the software.
First, sign into your Carbonite account at https://account.carbonite.com.
Carbonite Reinstall On This Computer
Once signed in, select Computer options and click Reinstall Carbonite for the backup you wish to reinstall on this computer.
Click the Download now button to download the Carbonite setup file. Run the file when the download completes.
Double-click the Carbonite file to start the installation process. You'll see the Carbonite Terms of Service as the first screen when you start the installation. Click Continue to agree and proceed.
After agreeing, you'll be prompted to type in the password you use to log into your Mac. Type it in and click Add Helper to continue.
You'll see Carbonite progress through the installation and then you'll be prompted select backup locations. Mark any of the checkboxes to have Carbonite look at these folders for backup.
After that you'll see Carbonite finish the installation and you can then open the User Interface. You can now add, remove, or restore files on your computer. You can also use Carbonite to determine the status of your backup.

Carbonite provides two methods to restore your backed up files to your computer:
Restoring Individual Files and Folders - Carbonite lets you navigate through your Carbonite Backup Drive and locate the file(s) and folder(s) you would like to restore to your computer. If you are unsure of the location, there is a feature to search your backup for files to restore.
Restoring All Your Files - With Carbonite's Restore Manager, you can effortlessly restore all of your backed up files to a new computer in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Restoring Individual Files and Folders
If you know the name and location of the file/folder you wish to restore, you can use the Carbonite Backup Drive to restore it. When you restore a file/folder, you can restore it to the original location or you can specify a new location. If you need to restore a file and are not sure where the file is located, Carbonite can help you search for the file using details such as the filename or date the file was last modified.
You can open the Carbonite Backup Drive through the Carbonite InfoCenter.

- Double-click the Carbonite lock icon in your Windows notification area to open the Carbonite InfoCenter.
- Within the Carbonite InfoCenter click the Restore tab to view a list of your restore options. Click Browse your backup to open the Carbonite Backup Drive.
- Once in the Carbonite Backup Drive, find the file or folder you wish to restore. When you have found the desired file or folder, right-click it and select Restore to restore the file to its original location.
The file will then be restored to where it was originally located.
To restore a file or folder to a new location, select Restore To... and you will see the Browse For Folder window displayed.

- If you chose to restore a file to a new location with the Restore To... option, you will see a window displayed allowing you to choose a location for the restore.
- Find and select the location to which you wish to restore your selected file(s)/folders(s). (If you wish to create a new folder, click the Make New Folder button, type a name for the new folder, and press the Enter key.)

When you are satisfied with your choice, click the OK button and the file will be restored to the location you specified.
Step 2: Restoring All Your Files
The Restore Manager can be used if you already have Carbonite installed or if you need to install Carbonite and restore. If you are unsure as to whether or not Carbonite is installed, you can check your Windows Notification Area or your Start Menu for Carbonite.
Please choose the scenario that best fits your situation:

First, open the Carbonite InfoCenter by double-clicking the Carbonite lock icon in your Windows notification area.
Note: If you do not see the lock, click the show hidden icons button ( < ) next to your Windows notification area to view hidden icons. In Windows 7, click the Show hidden icons button ( ^ ) next to your Windows notification area, to see the Carbonite lock. If you are running Windows 8 and are not viewing the desktop, please press the Windows Key + D on your keyboard to view the desktop.
Note: If you do not see the lock, click the show hidden icons button ( < ) next to your Windows notification area to view hidden icons. In Windows 7, click the Show hidden icons button ( ^ ) next to your Windows notification area, to see the Carbonite lock. If you are running Windows 8 and are not viewing the desktop, please press the Windows Key + D on your keyboard to view the desktop.
- The Carbonite lock icon above indicates that your backup is frozen for safekeeping. If your lock icon is not the same as the one above, please right-click the Carbonite lock icon and select Freeze my Backup.
- After double-clicking the Carbonite lock icon, the InfoCenter will indicate that your backup is frozen for safekeeping.
Click Restore files to go to the Restore tab of the Carbonite InfoCenter.

- Click Restore all files to launch the Restore Manager.
- Click Next to start using the Restore Manager.

If Carbonite is NOT installed on your PC
Go to https://account.carbonite.com and log in using your email address and Carbonite password. Once logged in, click Restore for the backup you would like to transfer and restore to this computer. You will see a pop-up box showing you two options to restore your files.

One thing that I always am amazed by is the 'let Carbonite pick the restore order' option. They do a good job pulling back the important items first, and then let the remainders come down in due time.
Had about a 7 gB restore the other day, and we had the restore in process, the e-mail files downloaded and loaded into Outlook, while the rest of the files came down over about 3 days. His most recent files were pulled first, and only lost the file he had open.
